Community development is more than economic development. It is also helping communities build up the infrastructure, leadership, social capital, pride and self-sufficiency that promise rural community survival.

Increasingly, rural community development involves regional development helping communities look beyond their borders and capture the opportunity present when rural areas collaborate on common issues and concerns.

The Rural Initiative sponsors a number of programs targeted at regional and community development with the ultimate goal of enhancing the prosperity and quality of life in rural Nebraska.
