In 2008, the University of Nebraska Rural Initiative, partnering with other NU and Nebraska organizations, began an effort to build a network of Nebraska food producers who grow a variety of healthy foods and to connect those food producers to local/regional markets.

The Nebraska Local Foods Network Luncheon and Seminar was held on June 24th, 2008, in Lincoln at the UNL -East Campus Union. It was a collaborative effort between the Nebraska Rural Initiative and the Nebraska Cooperative Development Center. Several speakers from across the region were invited to share their expertise. There was an excellent response to the seminar and speakers and many participants asked to have similar events in the future.
