This Rural Initiative Directory is a searchable database containing hundreds of web sites of programs, organizations, agencies and businesses that stabilize and enhance the economy and quality of life in non-metropolitan Nebraska.
Outreach activities of all four campuses of the University of Nebraska are included, along with state of Nebraska, regional, and federal programs. Programs of Nebraska not-for-profits, community colleges and private higher education institutions are also described. Agricultural and ecological programs are listed, as are business, industry, community, family, tourism and culture/diversity organizations. The Rural Initiative strives to include in this database any entity which touches the lives of rural Nebraskans.
When searching for websites, use of categories elicits the largest number of results and use of keywords elicits the most specific results. Typing in a word in the full-text search box calls up the fewest results because only the paragraph describing the website is searched, not the entire website.
